POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is a recognized world leader in investigating the effects of natural and human-induced environmental change and advancing technologies aimed at assessing a changing planet. For almost sixty years, DRI faculty, students, and staff have applied scientific understanding to support the effective management of natural resources while meeting Nevada’s needs for economic diversification and science-based educational opportunities.

The DRI is looking to hire a part-time student worker to work in the Environmental Analysis Facility (EAF) Carbon Lab within the Division of Atmospheric Sciences. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and performing repairs on the carbon analyzers within the lab, performing testing, and verifying proper operating to minimize analyzer downtime. Some of the duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Testing and repairing electromechanical analytical laboratory equipment
  • Reading schematics, diagrams, and standard operating procedures to determine methods of assembly
  • Installing electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies
  • Aligning, fitting, and assembling component parts using hand tools and power tools
  • Troubleshooting leaks and verifying proper flow rates in laboratory gas delivery systems
  • Thoroughly documenting all maintenance actions in laboratory analyzer logs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of college level engineering classes including electric or mechanical engineering
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with little supervision
  • Strong attention to detail
