Senior Application Developer | Nevada Gaming Control Board (EXP:UNR)


Under the direction of the Programming Supervisor, the Senior Application Developer’s primary responsibility is the application development for the Nevada Gaming Control Board. This involves all aspects of development, from business process analysis and requirements gathering to implementation including designing, developing, testing, debugging, documenting, and production support. The qualified individual will assist in creating application development strategies, developing and administering applications, and performing related work, as well. The qualified individual will participate in designing, developing, testing, debugging, and documenting software applications that support the mission of all Board Divisions including:

  • Applying knowledge of development techniques and technology to satisfy user requests and application development objectives
  • Helping identify and implementing best practices as they relate to application development in existing development in existing and future development projects
  • Leading efforts with business users and the technical team to review current applications and procedures and developing business and technical requirements
  • Resolving issues presented by management, staff, and business users regarding work processes, policies, procedures, and methods
  • Working with internal and external customers in defining business needs and identifying cooperative relationships to improve business processes
  • Designing technical and business process flowcharts, data models, and entity relationship diagrams based on business and technical requirements
  • Helping establish security policies and procedures for applications
  • Utilizing documented requirements to develop applications and systems
  • Meeting on a regular and timely basis with IT management, project managers, and staff as needed to ensure proper communication flow, project status, and implementation schedules


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Systems Analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least four years of experience with application design and development using Visual Studio development tools including ASP.Net, C#, and the MVC framework
  • At least four years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or above (JavaScript is required)
  • In depth understanding of Microsoft operating systems and its related tools and applications is required
  • Experience in development in JQuery and XML, using development tools such as Toad or similar tools, and experience with development collaboration systems such as Team Foundation Server
  • Experience in development in Jasper Reports, Crystal Reports, and SQL Server Reporting Services is desired
  • Experience using Scrum/Agile project methodologies is desired
  • Experience with COBOL programming is a significant plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as experience with formal QA process and coding standards
