Mechanical Engineering Intern | Legrand (INT:UNR)


Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the Server Technology team in Reno, Nevada. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work closely with the Product Management and Engineering Teams to develop new parts in PLM system and electromechanical assemblies including sheet metal fabrication drawings, finish drawings, cabling drawings, specification, source control drawings, and assembly drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software. The successful candidate will learn duties that include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating, modifying, and maintaining engineering documentation and BOMs in a PLM system
  • Creating engineering documentation, including functional wiring diagrams, power cord drawings, assembly drawings, specification, and source control drawings using CAD software
  • Creating sheet metal enclosures around electromechanical assemblies using CAD software and applying DFM principles
  • Utilizing CAD software to support manufacturing and customer documentation requirements
  • Building and testing electromechanical assemblies
  • Conducting tests and collecting data using test equipment
  • Reviewing BOMs for accuracy and completeness (ensuring that engineering drafting standards are met)
  • Gaining experience communicating with multiple departments to assist with order shipment


  • Working toward a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering (junior or senior preferred)
  • Engineering Technician experience in a large volume production environment, preferred
  • Experience using parametric modeling and CAD software (Autodesk Suite knowledge is a plus)
  • Knowledge of drafting standards for mechanical parts and assemblies preferred
  • Manufacturing experience in an industrial environment a plus
  • Basic understanding of AC power, digital electronics, and PCB design software is a plus
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access)
