R&D ENGINEER II | LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Los Alamos National Laboratory is currently looking to hire approximately six engineers (electrical engineer and/or engineering physics preferred; mechanical engineer possible) at various levels in Instrumentation and Integration Team Leader TJ Ulrich’s team. The successful candidates will work closely with a diverse group of engineers, scientists, technologists, and technicians on projects and programs for both internal and external customers. The successful candidates will become members of Q-6 and be assigned to one of six teams (Stockpile Systems and Surveillance; Detonation Science; Timing, Firing, and Firesets; Life Extension Programs; War-Reserve Testing; and Local Testing and Advanced Characterization). The successful candidates will team with other Q-6 engineers/scientists in project areas such as detonator design, performance studies and modeling, detonator testing, implementation of new diagnostics, and design and qualification of electrical firesets. The successful candidates will work with other organizations to ensure programs are supported and deliverables are met. The successful candidates will work daily in a classified setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in engineering from an Accreditation Board or Engineering Technology (ABET) college or university program is required; advanced degree in engineering is strongly preferred
  • United States citizenship
  • Demonstrated successful experience working in an integrated environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in an environment of shifting priorities
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, electrical design, product engineering, and/or process engineering (more than three years of work experience)
  • Demonstrated experience of successful execution of complex tests and experiments, including publishing reports
  • Demonstrated experience in creative problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience in performing circuit simulation, finite-element, and/or hydrocode modeling
  • Strong presentation skills and experience interacting with all levels of personnel and customers
